What you need to know

Butter & Crumble opened its first retail bakery in North Beach in October 2023. The focus is laminated pastries and layered crumble cakes, made in small batches and almost always selling out. Pistachio-sugar croissants, lemon cruffins, and bespoke buttercream cakes are the signatures.

The Food

The croissants and cruffins rotate seasonally. Cakes are sold by preorder only, with new availability dropping through Hotplate every Monday. Pastry boxes can also be preordered every Tuesday morning between 9am and 12pm for the following weekend, which is the only way to skip the main line.

The Space

Small Francisco Street storefront. Open Thursday through Sunday only, and lines start before opening on weekends. The bakery has asked customers not to line up too early to keep the neighborhood happy.
