The Verdict

"One of SF's top comedy clubs in North Beach. The room holds about 400 and sightlines are decent throughout. Two-drink minimum applies. Weekend headliner shows sell out, so buy early. Weeknight showcases are cheaper and often just as funny."

What you need to know

Cobb’s Comedy Club has been on Columbus Avenue in North Beach since 2003 (the original Cobb’s operated in the Cannery at Fisherman’s Wharf starting in the 1980s). The room holds about 400 and books national headliners on weekends with local and touring comics during the week. It’s the larger of San Francisco’s two dedicated comedy clubs.

What to Expect

Weekend headliner shows are the main draw. You’ll see names you recognize from Netflix specials and late night TV. Thursday through Saturday shows typically have an opening act and a feature before the headliner, running about 90 minutes total. Weeknight shows and showcases are shorter and cheaper.

There’s a two drink minimum, which is standard for comedy clubs. The drinks are fine. There’s no real food menu beyond basic snacks. The room has table seating and the sightlines are good throughout.

Arrive early for weekend shows. Seating is assigned at the door on a first come basis, and early arrivals get better tables. Sitting in the front row means you may become part of the act.

Columbus Avenue has plenty of restaurants and bars for before or after. North Beach is a good neighborhood to wander.

Getting There

The 30 Stockton bus runs along Columbus. From BART, Montgomery station is a 15 to 20 minute walk through North Beach, or take a short rideshare. Street parking in North Beach is competitive at night. The North Beach Garage on Vallejo is the closest option.

Skip this if you’re expecting a small, edgy comedy room. Cobb’s books mainstream headliners and the experience is polished. For a more underground comedy scene, check the open mics and alternative shows around the city.
