The Verdict

"SF's legendary SoMa club has two rooms and programs everything from punk to goth to dance nights. Death Guild on Mondays is a city institution. The main room has a balcony with decent views. Lines form early for popular events, so arrive before doors."

What you need to know

DNA Lounge has been on 11th Street in SoMa since 1985. It’s survived multiple ownership changes, neighborhood shifts, and the kind of real estate pressure that closed most of the city’s other late night venues. The club runs events nearly every night: live bands, DJ nights, goth and industrial parties, drag shows, burlesque, comedy, and whatever else fits on the calendar.

What to Expect

The space has two rooms across two levels. The main room has a large stage and dance floor. The upstairs lounge, Above DNA, hosts smaller events or opens as overflow. The sound system is powerful and the lighting is built for club nights. The venue was an early adopter of live streaming and still webcasts many events.

The crowd depends entirely on the night. Monday might be a goth party. Wednesday could be a punk show. Friday might be an electronic DJ set. Check the calendar rather than assuming a vibe. The late night events run past 2 AM, which is increasingly rare in San Francisco.

Visiting

375 Eleventh Street, SoMa. Cover varies by event, typically $10 to $25. Some live shows run higher. Events are listed on the venue’s website with cover and door times. The kitchen serves pizza, which is legitimately decent and available late.

The block is industrial and quiet between events. It’s not the kind of neighborhood where you’d wander around beforehand, but it’s not dangerous either. Uber or Lyft in and out is the standard move.

Getting There

No great transit option. The 12 Folsom bus runs nearby but not late at night. Rideshare is the most practical choice. Street parking is available on the surrounding blocks and easier to find than in most San Francisco neighborhoods, especially after 8 PM.

Skip this if you want a polished nightclub experience. DNA Lounge is deliberately rough around the edges. That’s why people love it.
