Baker Beach

The Verdict

"North end has the Golden Gate Bridge views. South end is clothing-optional. The water is dangerously cold with strong currents, so this is a walking and picnicking beach, not a swimming beach."

What you need to know

Baker Beach sits at the southwest edge of the Presidio with unobstructed views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The water is too cold and the currents too strong for swimming, but the views are unmatched. The north end is clothing optional. Picnic tables and grills are available. Parking fills early on weekends.

Drive or take an Uber because there's no convenient transit. Sunset is the best time but bring a heavy jacket because the wind at the top is brutal. Clear days are rare in summer.
