The Verdict

"Castro district nightclub with multiple floors and a rooftop deck. Weekends get packed after midnight. The rooftop is the best part on a warm night, but layers help since SF nights cool down fast even in summer."

What you need to know

Beaux is a two story gay nightclub on Market Street in the Castro. The name is a play on the French word for handsome. The space has a main dance floor on the ground level, a second floor lounge, and an outdoor patio. It’s one of the larger dedicated nightlife venues in the Castro, which has lost several clubs over the years to rising rents.

What to Expect

Weekend nights are the main event: DJs play pop, dance music, and remixes on the main floor until 2 AM. The upstairs lounge is quieter and better for conversation. Theme nights, drag shows, and special events fill the calendar during the week. The crowd is predominantly gay men with a welcoming attitude toward everyone.

The bar serves standard drinks. Pricing is normal for a Castro bar. No food service.

Visiting

2344 Market Street, Castro District. Open nightly. Cover ranges from free on weeknights to $5 to $15 on weekends and for special events. Weekend nights pick up after 10 PM. The patio is the best feature on warmer evenings.

Getting There

Castro Muni Metro station (K, L, M lines) is two blocks away. The F Market streetcar stops on Market Street nearby. Street parking on Market is metered. Side streets are residential and easier.

Skip this if you want a low key evening. Beaux is a dance club. The music is loud, the lights are flashy, and the energy runs high on weekends.
