Taqueria Cancún
The Verdict
"The carnitas super burrito is why people come here. Hit the green tomatillo salsa at the salsa bar. Less hectic than El Farolito if you want to actually sit and eat."
What you need to know
Taqueria Cancún has been doing the Mission’s eternal burrito argument since 1991. Two former El Farolito employees opened the original at 6th and Market. The Mission Street location at 2288 Mission has been the one that built the legend, with the carnitas super burrito making the rounds on every best-of list.
What to Order
Super Burrito (Carnitas): Slow-braised pork, tender with crispy bits. Rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, guac, and salsa.
Super Burrito (Carne Asada): Properly charred grilled beef. Holds up against any in the neighborhood.
Tacos: Corn tortillas, choice of meat, onions, cilantro, salsa.
Quesadilla Suiza: Heavier and cheesier if you want the change.
Hit the salsa bar. The green tomatillo is the one to grab.
The Vibe
Less chaotic than El Farolito. Bigger space, softer lights, booths and tables where you can hear the person across from you. Order at the counter, take a number, listen for it.
