Akiko’s Restaurant

📍 🍽️ Japanese

The Verdict

"Book the omakase upstairs via Tock. Eight seats, Toyosu Market sourcing, one Michelin star."

What you need to know

Akiko’s has been on Mason Street near Union Square since 1973, run by the Hashino family. The omakase counter on the second floor is the move. Chef Ray Lee sources from Tokyo’s Toyosu Market and California waters, and the eight-seat sushi bar runs a 17-course omakase that earned a Michelin star in 2019.

The Food

The omakase changes daily based on what came in. Expect uni from Hokkaido, otoro from Japan, local hamachi, fresh wasabi grated tableside, and aged fish prepared with traditional Edomae techniques. The hand rolls at the end are the signature.

Downstairs serves a la carte sushi and traditional Japanese dishes for diners who don’t want the full omakase.
