15 Romolo
The Verdict
"Industry-veteran bartenders. Order bartender's choice."
What you need to know
15 Romolo sits down a North Beach alley off Broadway, next to The Beat Museum. The space was the Basque Hotel restaurant from 1964 to 1996. The current bar opened in 1998 and reopened after an 18-month renovation. Tin ceiling, mahogany walls, dim lighting.
The Drinks
Bartender’s choice works well here. Tell the staff what you like and let them go. The printed menu has around a dozen cocktails that rotate, plus the classics. House-made tinctures, infusions, and bitters. Beer and wine programs are tight.
The Food
Bar food: deviled eggs, lamb burger, fries with chimichurri, mac and cheese.
