What you need to know

Public Works is on Erie Street, a small alley off Mission in the Mission District. It’s been one of the city’s primary electronic and dance music venues since 2010. The space has a main room with a large dance floor and a smaller loft upstairs, plus an outdoor patio that functions as the social hub between sets.

What to Expect

The booking focuses on house, techno, bass music, and underground electronic acts. Weekends are the main event, with local DJs and touring artists playing until 3 or 4 AM. The sound system is the venue’s biggest asset: loud, clear, and tuned for bass heavy music. The main room is industrial concrete and the lighting rig is built for club nights.

The patio is the unofficial second venue. People cycle between the dance floor and the outdoor space throughout the night. It’s where most of the socializing happens.

Weeknight events are more varied and include live bands, comedy, and community events. The venue also hosts daytime events and fundraisers on occasion.
