24th Street is the heart of the Mission’s Latino community and the spine of the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District, designated by the city in 2014 to protect the area’s Latino character against displacement. The corridor runs from Mission Street east toward Potrero Avenue.
Along it are panaderías, taquerías, produce markets, and murals. La Palma Mexicatessen has made tortillas and tamales nearby since 1953. The district hosts the annual Día de los Muertos procession and is close to the route of the Carnaval celebration. Walk it slowly and eat as you go.
