Clarion Alley runs one block between 17th and 18th, Mission and Valencia. Since 1992 the Clarion Alley Mural Project has covered its walls with murals that turn over regularly, unlike the older fixed murals elsewhere in the Mission. The work is overtly political, addressing gentrification, displacement, police violence, immigration, and queer rights.
Because the murals change, no two visits are the same. The alley is a working residential street, so keep noise down. It is one of two mural alleys that anchor the Mission’s public art, along with Balmy Alley to the south.
