Cottage Row is a short pedestrian lane between Fillmore and Webster, near Sutter, lined with a row of small wooden cottages built in 1882. They were modest working-class housing, unusual survivors in a neighborhood that lost most of its old buildings to redevelopment. The lane is now a city landmark and a small public park, with a brick path and garden plots.
It is one of the quietest spots in the Fillmore, a remnant of the 19th-century streetscape. The cottages are private homes. Walk the lane and continue toward Japantown.
