Civic Center Soundtrack: Free Live Music at Fulton Plaza

💰 Free

The Verdict

"Go on a Thursday and pair it with the Asian Art Museum across Larkin Street, which stays open until 8pm that one night a week. Three acts rotate across the three hours, so arriving at 1pm still catches a full set. Food trucks are on the plaza, so there is no need to leave and come back."

What you need to know

The Civic Center Soundtrack is a free outdoor concert series on Fulton Plaza, the block of Fulton Street between the Main Library and the Asian Art Museum. It runs every Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 3pm, April through October.

What to Expect

Each concert day books three performers across the three hours, so the plaza has continuous music through the lunch period and into the afternoon. The programming leans on Bay Area musicians and rotates through genres rather than sticking to one. The 2026 season is the third edition and is scheduled for more than 50 concert days and over 150 bands. A rotating set of food trucks parks alongside the stage.

Visiting

Admission is free and there is no ticket or registration. Seating is a mix of plaza furniture and the library steps, and it is first come, first served. The series began in 2024 and has run more than 100 free concerts since. The 2026 season opened on April 14 and continues through October. Schedules are posted at sfciviccenter.org.

Pairing It With the Neighborhood

Fulton Plaza sits between two buildings worth the same trip. The Main Library is open to the public at no cost. The Asian Art Museum is across Larkin Street at 200 Larkin and is open Thursday 1 to 8pm and Friday through Monday 10am to 5pm, closed Tuesday and Wednesday. A Thursday visit lines up the concert with the museum’s one late evening of the week.

Getting There

Fulton Plaza is a short walk from Civic Center station, served by BART and by the Muni Metro lines running under Market Street. The 5 Fulton, 19 Polk, 21 Hayes, and 47 Van Ness stop within a couple of blocks. Street parking around Civic Center is metered and hard to find at midday, and the Civic Center Plaza garage is the nearest paid option.
