Fieldwork Brewing Will Open a Taproom in the Former Presidio Social Club
Fieldwork Brewing Company will open a taproom in the Presidio, in the building that housed the Presidio Social Club until 2024. The Presidio Trust announced the signed lease on July 7, 2026, for the commercial property at 563 Ruger Street, near the Lombard Gate and the Letterman campus. The Berkeley brewer projects an early 2027 opening.
The Space
The property has about 5,370 square feet of indoor space, a 1,780-square-foot outdoor deck, and on-site parking, according to the Presidio Trust. It will be Fieldwork’s third location in San Francisco, joining its taprooms at China Basin Park and Mission Rock, and the first taproom inside the Presidio. Fieldwork was founded in Berkeley in 2014 and now operates ten locations across Northern California.
The Drinks and Food
Fieldwork plans an expansive beverage program at the Presidio: craft beer, a full food menu, a brunch service, and a range of non-alcoholic options. The company says the site will also carry its first cocktail program, a first for Fieldwork, alongside wines from its Fieldwork Cellars offshoot. The San Francisco Standard reports the taproom will pour beers such as the hazy IPA Pulp and the imperial stout Death Will Tremble.
What Was There Before
The Presidio Social Club operated in the same building for 18 years. It opened in 2006 in a restored military barracks and ran as a brunch and dinner spot until chef-owner Ray Tang closed it in 2024, citing declining sales and a rent increase. The space has sat empty since.
Getting There
The building is on the east side of the Presidio near the Lombard Gate, off Lombard and Lyon streets. The Presidio is served by the free PresidiGo shuttle, which connects to the Presidio Transit Center and downtown, and by Muni route 43 Masonic. The taproom is not open yet; the Presidio Trust’s projected timeline is early 2027.
Details are from the Presidio Trust, with additional reporting from the San Francisco Standard and SFist. For more to do in the park, see our guide to things to do in San Francisco in July 2026.
