Cupid’s Span is a 60-foot sculpture of a bow and arrow planted in the lawn of Rincon Park along the Embarcadero. It was made by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen and installed in 2002. The bow is drawn and the arrow buried in the ground, a play on San Francisco’s association with Eros and, in the artists’ telling, a nod to Cupid having just landed.
It frames a clean view of the Bay Bridge behind it. The park around it is a strip of lawn between the promenade and the bay.
