Audio SF
The Verdict
"A SoMa club that books a wide range of electronic and live acts. The sound system is solid and the room is compact enough that there's no bad spot. Check their calendar for free or cheap weeknight events."
What you need to know
Audio is a small nightclub on Natoma Street in SoMa. The room holds about 200 people and the entire design is built around the sound system: a Funktion One rig that audiophiles travel specifically to hear. The club opened in 2014 and focuses exclusively on electronic dance music.
What to Expect
The booking covers house, techno, and underground electronic from both touring international DJs and Bay Area residents. The dance floor is the only real space. There’s a bar along one wall and not much else. No VIP section, no bottle service, no pretense. You’re here to dance and listen.
The Funktion One system is the venue’s identity. It’s one of the better installations in any small club in the US. The sound is loud but clear, with bass that’s physical without being painful. If you care about audio quality in a club setting, this system justifies the trip.
Visiting
316 11th Street, SoMa. Events typically run Friday and Saturday nights from 10 PM to 4 AM. Cover ranges from $10 to $30. Some events run later on special occasions. The bar serves drinks. No food.
The SoMa block is industrial and quiet between events. Same late night neighborhood considerations as other SoMa venues.
Getting There
No convenient transit option for late night. Rideshare is the standard. Civic Center BART is about a 15 minute walk for events that start earlier. Street parking on the surrounding SoMa blocks is available.
Skip this if you want a full nightclub experience with multiple rooms, lounges, and bottle service. This is a single room with a sound system and a dance floor. Nothing else.
