Brava Theater
The Verdict
"A Mission District institution focused on new work by Latin American and queer artists."
What you need to know
A 300-seat theater on 24th Street in the Mission, founded in 1986 by Ellen Gavin, producing and presenting work by women, LGBTQ artists, and artists of color.
What to Expect
Programming is theater-forward with an emphasis on new work: original plays, solo shows, dance, and community events, many engaging social and political themes. The room has raked seating with sightlines from most rows. The space also rents to other companies and hosts film screenings and cultural celebrations connected to the Mission’s Latino and queer communities. Some community events are free.
Getting There
24th Street Mission BART is a few blocks west. The 48 Quintara/24th Street runs along 24th past the theater.
