Sunday concentrates in Golden Gate Park. Swing dancers take over JFK Drive at 11am, the Golden Gate Park Band plays the Music Concourse at 1pm from spring through early fall, and the Skatin’ Place roller disco spins from noon. Downtown, the city’s longest-running comedy showcase closes out the weekend.
Lindy in the Park
Lindy in the Park has run free Sunday swing dancing on JFK Drive between 8th and 10th Avenues since 1996, from 11am to 2pm, weather permitting, with a free beginner lesson at noon. No partner needed.
Roller Disco at the Skatin’ Place
The outdoor roller disco at the Skatin’ Place, 6th Avenue and JFK Drive, has run on Sundays since 1979: a DJ, a dedicated skate area, and no charge, from noon to 5pm (6pm during daylight saving time). In the evening, Church of 8 Wheels on Fillmore Street adds indoor sessions, including the 8pm Sunday Night Soul Roll.
Stern Grove Festival (Summer Sundays)
The free Stern Grove Festival runs on Sundays from mid-June to mid-August at Sigmund Stern Grove, 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard. Admission is free with a ticket from the GA lottery, which opens six weeks before each show, or from the 1,500 in-person Community Box Office tickets per show. Golden Gate Park Band (Spring Through Fall)
The Golden Gate Park Band, the oldest continuously operating community band in the country (since 1882), plays free Sunday concerts from 1 to 2:30pm at the Spreckels Temple of Music on the Music Concourse, from late April through late September.
Sunday Farmers Markets
Three markets run on Sundays year-round: the Clement Street Farmers Market in the Inner Richmond, 9am to 2pm; the Stonestown Farmers Market, 9am to 1pm; and the Sunday Heart of the City Farmers Market at Fulton Plaza in Civic Center, 7am to 4pm.
SF Comedy Showcase at the Punch Line
The Punch Line at 444 Battery Street has run its Sunday-night comedy showcase for more than 40 years; Patton Oswalt, Margaret Cho, and W. Kamau Bell all came through it early in their careers. Shows are at 7:30pm, 18 and over, with tickets through the club.
Evening Jazz at Bird & Beckett
Bird & Beckett, the bookstore and jazz room at 653 Chenery Street in Glen Park, hosts a pay-what-you-can jazz set on Sundays at 5pm. BYOB.
Free First Sundays at the Asian Art Museum
On the first Sunday of each month, the Asian Art Museum offers free general admission (special exhibitions are $10). Hours are 10am to 5pm; advance reservations are recommended.
Car-Free Park Roads
JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park and Sunset Dunes along Ocean Beach (the former Upper Great Highway, converted to a park in 2025) are car-free every day of the week, but Sundays bring the most programming and the biggest crowds of walkers, bikes, and skates.
