Elixir is on the corner of 16th and Guerrero in the Mission. The site has held a bar since 1858, making it the second-oldest continuously operating saloon site in San Francisco. The current owner, H. Joseph Ehrmann, took over in 2003 and runs a serious craft cocktail program in a room that still has the original mahogany back bar.
The Drinks
Cocktail menu rotates regularly with seasonal ingredients and house infusions. The bar pioneered the local craft cocktail movement and sources from Bay Area distilleries when it can. Classic builds done correctly are always available even when not on the printed menu.
The Space
Long, narrow corner bar with the old mahogany counter, a few tables, and a back room with banquettes. The crowd is neighborhood Mission with industry regulars who come for the bartender’s choice.
