Acquerello
What you need to know
Acquerello opened on Sacramento Street in 1989 and has held two Michelin stars for over a decade. Chef Suzette Gresham runs the kitchen with an Italian fine-dining tradition built on Northern Italian technique and impeccable ingredient sourcing. The dining room occupies a converted chapel with high ceilings, wood beams, and the kind of measured pacing that only this level of restaurant maintains.
The Food
Tasting menus run three, four, or five courses with an extended chef’s tasting available. The signature dish is the Foie Gras Truffled Beggar’s Purse, a delicate pasta pocket that has been on the menu for decades. Squab, lamb, and seasonal handmade pastas anchor the longer menus.
The wine cellar holds over 1,800 selections with particular depth in aged Italian reds. The cheese cart is its own attraction.
