Tacos El Patron operates from South Van Ness Avenue in the Mission, the family’s second location after their original in Pleasant Hill. The quesabirria (birria tacos with melted cheese and a cup of consomme for dipping) is the dish that draws the crowd. Handmade tortillas, generous portions, and prices that haven’t lost touch with the neighborhood.

The Food

The birria tacos are the essential order. Slow-cooked beef in rich, spiced broth, folded into tortillas with melted cheese, served with consomme on the side for dipping. Super burritos are massive. Fish tacos, street tacos, ceviche, chilaquiles, and a full menu of Mexican staples round out the options.

Tacos run $5.50 to $8, burritos $10 to $17.
