Alta Plaza Park is a terraced hilltop square bounded by Jackson, Clay, Steiner, and Scott. Its stone steps on the south side, descending toward the Western Addition, were modeled on the gardens of a European palace and appear in the 1972 Barbra Streisand film What’s Up, Doc, during a car chase that bounced a Volkswagen down them.
The park gives a clear view south across the city and north to the bay. The blocks around it hold some of the grandest Victorians and Edwardians in Pacific Heights. The terraced lawns are popular with dog walkers.
