Stow Lake is a man-made ring of water around Strawberry Hill, the highest point in Golden Gate Park. You can rent a rowboat or pedal boat, or walk the loop trail around the lake in about half an hour. A Chinese pavilion, a gift from Taipei, sits on the shore.
On the island, Huntington Falls drops down the side of Strawberry Hill, an artificial waterfall fed by water pumped to the summit. Paths climb to the top for a view across the park. The lake is a quiet center of the park, popular with herons, turtles, and birdwatchers.
