Valkyries Clinch a WNBA Playoff Spot With a 78-70 Win Over Dallas at Chase Center

The Golden State Valkyries clinched a 2026 WNBA playoff spot on Monday, August 17, beating the Dallas Wings 78-70 at Chase Center. It is the second postseason berth in the franchise’s two seasons, and it means at least one more month of women’s basketball in Mission Bay.

Gabby Williams led Golden State with 23 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals, according to the team’s game recap. Veronica Burton added 16 points, and Tiffany Hayes and Janelle Salaun scored 10 apiece. Hayes ended the first quarter with a shot from the center logo that dropped with 0.1 seconds left, putting the Valkyries up 20-19.

The win was Golden State’s sixth in a row and moved the team to 25-9, second in the league standings. The Valkyries are the third team to clinch this season, after the Minnesota Lynx and the Las Vegas Aces. ESPN’s box score records the same 78-70 final.

What it means for the rest of the season

The next home game is Wednesday, August 19 at 7 p.m. against the first-place Minnesota Lynx, per the team’s recap, with the broadcast on KPIX in the Bay Area. The WNBA regular season ends September 24, and the league pauses from August 31 through September 16 for the FIBA Women’s World Cup, so the home calendar between now and the playoffs is short. Current dates and tickets are on the official Valkyries schedule.

Going to a game

Where: Chase Center, 1 Warriors Way, Mission Bay. Getting there: The Muni T Third light rail line stops at UCSF/Chase Center, directly outside the arena. Caltrain’s 4th and King station is about a 15 minute walk north. Parking in Mission Bay on game nights is limited and priced accordingly, so transit is the practical choice.
