Tunnel Records
The Verdict
"Husband-and-wife vinyl shop (Ben Wintroub, Andrea de Francisco) specializing in rare-groove soul, jazz, funk, and reggae since 2017."
What you need to know
Two locations
The original shop is on Taraval Street in the Parkside. Weekday hours are noon to 6pm and weekend hours start at 11am. The second location is inside the 4-Star Theatre on Clement Street in the Richmond, open during evening showings and weekend afternoons. The 4-Star location pairs records with movies; flip through vinyl before or after a film.
What you’ll find
Tunnel Records is run by husband-and-wife team Ben Wintroub (records) and Andrea de Francisco (beach goods). The selection focuses on rare groove: soul, jazz, funk, and reggae, with rock filling in. The shop also sells merchandise (shirts, sweatshirts, hats, prints) and hosts occasional live events. Dogs are welcome.
Getting there
The Taraval location is served by the L-Taraval Muni line, which runs on Taraval Street. For the Clement Street location, the 38-Geary bus runs one block north on Geary Boulevard and the 1-California runs one block south on California Street. Both neighborhoods have easier street parking than the rest of the city.
