Bix

📍 🍸 Historic Bar

What you need to know

Bix sits in a Gold Rush-era brick building on Gold Street in Jackson Square, hidden down an alley with no signage on the front door. Inside: two stories of Art Deco, a curving white marble bar, white-jacketed bartenders, and live jazz seven nights a week. The room hasn’t changed much since it opened in 1988, and the design feels older than that.

The Drinks

Classic cocktails made correctly. Manhattans, Martinis, Negronis. The Sidecar is a house specialty. The wine list is built around classic pairings.

The Music

A jazz trio plays from the mezzanine every night. The music is the room’s heartbeat, never loud enough to interrupt conversation but always present. Singers join on weekends.

The Food

American supper club menu: oysters, chopped salads, dry-aged steaks, lamb chops. The chicken hash is a long-running signature.
