Ferry Plaza Farmers Market
The Verdict
"Come on Saturday for the market at full tilt. Restaurant chefs shop the stalls alongside everyone else, and the Foodwise Classroom runs free cooking demos in the morning."
What you need to know
The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market is Foodwise’s market outside the Ferry Building along the Embarcadero, started in 1992 and built into a year-round operation.
What to Expect
The Saturday market is the largest of the three weekly markets, running rain or shine, with farmers, prepared-food vendors, and ranchers along the bay side of the Ferry Building. Tuesday and Thursday markets are smaller and aimed at the downtown lunch crowd. Vendors sell directly to the public, and the market is a supply line for many of the city’s restaurants. The Foodwise Classroom runs free cooking demonstrations Saturday mornings; EBT and Market Match double CalFresh up to $10. The permanent vendors inside the Ferry Building (Acme Bread, Hog Island, Blue Bottle) are open seven days a week.
Getting There
The Embarcadero BART and Muni Metro station is across the street, and the F-Market streetcar stops at the Ferry Building.
