What you need to know
The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market runs outside the Ferry Building along the Embarcadero. The market is operated by CUESA (Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture), a nonprofit that started the market in 1992 as a one-day event and built it into a year-round operation.
Hours
The Saturday market runs 8am to 2pm year-round, rain or shine. It’s the largest of the three weekly markets, with farmers, prepared-food vendors, and ranchers spread along the Embarcadero on the bay side of the Ferry Building.
Tuesday and Thursday markets run 10am to 2pm and are smaller, oriented toward the downtown lunch crowd.
What’s Sold
Vendors sell directly to the public. Produce, meat, fish, eggs, cheese, bread, and prepared foods are all represented. Restaurant cooks shop alongside the general public; the market is one of the supply lines for many of the city’s restaurants.
Programs
The Foodwise Classroom runs free cooking demonstrations on Saturday mornings using ingredients from market vendors. The market accepts EBT, and Market Match doubles CalFresh benefits up to $10 per visit.
Inside the Ferry Building
The permanent vendors inside the Ferry Building, including Acme Bread, Cowgirl Creamery, Hog Island Oyster Company, and Blue Bottle Coffee, are open seven days a week.
Getting There
The Embarcadero BART and Muni Metro station is across the street. The F-Market historic streetcar stops at the Ferry Building. Many Muni bus lines serve the downtown end of Market Street within a short walk.
