Jane the Bakery
The Verdict
"Come before 10am if you want the full bread selection. The kouign amann and croissants are the pastry highlights. Weekday mornings are calm; weekend mornings draw a brunch crowd."
What you need to know
The Food
The sourdough is the headliner. Country loaf, walnut levain, and seasonal varieties rotate alongside it. Laminated pastries (croissants, kouign-amann) come out fresh each morning. Sandwiches use the house bread. Salads and packed lunches round out the case.
Jane is part of a small SF chain (Jane on Fillmore, Jane on Larkin) but the Geary location is the bakery itself, where the bread is actually baked.
The Space
Bright, modern, with limited counter seating and outside benches. Mostly a grab-and-go spot. Geary Boulevard is not the prettiest stretch but the bread is the reason people make the trip.
