Hyde Street Pier is the center of the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. Tied up along it is a fleet of historic ships, including the Balclutha, a steel-hulled square-rigger built in Scotland in 1886 that carried cargo around Cape Horn, and the Eureka, a wooden-hulled ferry from 1890. Several can be boarded.
Before the Golden Gate and Bay bridges opened in the 1930s, this was a working ferry slip. The pier sits at the foot of the Hyde Street cable car line. There is a fee to board the ships; the pier itself is free to walk.
