Magic Theatre

The Magic Theatre at Fort Mason has been producing new American plays since 1967. Sam Shepard was the resident playwright in the 1970s and 1980s; the Magic premiered Buried Child, True West, and Fool for Love. Two stages share the Building D space at Fort Mason: the 162-seat Sam Shepard Theatre and a smaller second stage. Programming is almost entirely new work or world premieres.
