Scoma’s
The Verdict
"Cioppino and crab. Family-run at Pier 47 since 1965 with dock-to-kitchen sourcing. Reserve via OpenTable for a window table."
What you need to know
Scoma’s has been on Pier 47 in Fisherman’s Wharf since 1965, owned by the Scoma family the entire time. Boats unload directly behind the restaurant. The seafood goes from dock to kitchen with no middleman, which is why Scoma’s serves Dungeness crab better than the tourist spots a few blocks away.
The Food
Cioppino: The signature. Crab, clams, mussels, fish, and shrimp in a tomato broth.
Lazy Man’s Cioppino: Same dish, all shellfish pre-cracked.
Crab Sandwich: Sourdough, fresh-cracked Dungeness, butter.
Sand Dabs Meuniere: Pan-fried with brown butter and lemon.
The Space
Two floors with bay views from most tables. The downstairs is the old-school SF seafood joint, dark and clubby. Upstairs is brighter with picture windows over the water.
