Pink Triangle Park, at the triangle where 17th, Castro, and Market meet, is the first permanent memorial in the United States to the LGBTQ people persecuted and killed by the Nazi regime. It was dedicated in 2001. Fifteen granite pylons, one for every thousand people estimated to have been forced to wear the pink triangle in concentration camps, stand in a bed of pink crushed quartz.
The pink triangle, once a badge of persecution, was reclaimed as a symbol of the gay rights movement. The park is small and open at all hours.
