Four blocks east of the Yerba Buena district, a 5.4-acre park runs along the roof of the Salesforce Transit Center, four stories above Mission Street and nearly a quarter mile long. Thirteen botanical zones, a half-mile walking loop, an amphitheater, and towers rising on every side: a park shaped like the bus terminal under it.
The ride up is the discovery: a free gondola climbs from the corner of Mission and Fremont to the roof, running daily from 8am (the park itself opens at 6am and closes at 8 or 9pm by season). Escalators and elevators inside the center also reach the roof.
The park hosts free fitness classes and concerts on a regular calendar. The gondola pauses in bad weather, which in this microclimate is rare.
