Japanese designer vintage in Japantown

Chameleon Vintage operates out of the Japan Center in Japantown and specializes in Japanese fashion labels that most vintage shops in America don’t carry. Comme des Garcons, Number (N)ine, Undercover, Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, and Hysteric Glamour share rack space with American vintage staples. If you know these designers, you know how hard they are to find secondhand in the US.

What you’ll find

The Japanese designer pieces are the draw. These are labels that rarely show up at Goodwill or even at most curated vintage shops, and Chameleon prices them accordingly. Expect to pay collector-level prices for rare pieces. The American vintage section (denim, band tees, workwear) offers a more accessible price point if the Japanese labels are out of budget.

Getting there

Chameleon is at 1581 Webster Street #200, inside the Japan Center. The 38 Geary bus on Geary Boulevard is the easiest public transit option. The Japan Center garage provides covered parking if you’re driving.
