R&G Lounge

📍 Chinatown 💰 $$$ 🍽️ Chinese, Cantonese, Seafood

The Verdict

"The salt and pepper crab is what to order. Bring four people so you can get it plus three or four other dishes family-style. The downstairs room has tablecloths, the upstairs has energy. Same kitchen."

What you need to know

R&G Lounge has been at 631 Kearny Street since 1985. The signature dish is salt and pepper Dungeness crab. Fried whole, tossed with a house spice mix, served with the cracking tools. Anthony Bourdain ate it on No Reservations. It’s still what most tables order.

R&G stands for Rich and Glorious.

What to Order

Salt and Pepper Crab: The reason to come. Whole Dungeness, market price, messy, worth the work.
Peking Duck: Order in advance. Multiple courses, lacquered crispy skin.
Special Beef: Tender beef in a savory sauce. House standard.
Steamed Live Fish: If it’s available, order it. Cantonese steamed fish is a test, and R&G knows how to do it.

The Space

Two floors. The main level is bright and busy with Chinese families at large round tables and fast-moving servers. The other floor is quieter and more formal. Same kitchen.
