Boom Boom Room
The Verdict
"Thursday through Saturday nights are when the real acts play. Get there by 9pm to claim floor space. Fillmore St has free street parking after 6pm. Order beer or well drinks and tip the band."
What you need to know
The Music
Live music four to six nights a week, mostly Wednesday through Saturday. The booking mixes touring blues, funk, and soul acts with Bay Area regulars who know how to work a small room. Cover charges are usually reasonable, and the quality of musicianship punches above the room’s size.
Check the calendar before you show up. Closed Sunday, Monday, and most Tuesdays.
The Space
Small, low-lit, intimate. A bar along one side, a floor-level stage at the back, and a dance floor that fills up once the band locks into a groove. The walls carry music memorabilia and nods to the Fillmore District’s history as the center of Black culture and music in San Francisco.
When the dance floor is packed, the energy in the room becomes the point. This is not a sit-quietly-and-listen venue. It’s a move-your-body venue.
