The Rotunda
The Verdict
"Go for the room as much as the food. The stained-glass rotunda is worth seeing even if you just order tea. It's one of the few dining rooms in SF that genuinely surprises people."
What you need to know
The Food
The popovers and strawberry butter come standard at every table and are reason enough to come. Lobster club sandwiches, Cobb salads, and house-made soups round out lunch. The afternoon tea service includes scones, finger sandwiches, and a tower of sweets, served with a wide selection of teas.
The Space
The stained-glass dome, originally from the City of Paris department store, is the centerpiece. The 1909 dome was preserved when Neiman Marcus took over the building. White tablecloths, attentive service, a quiet midday refuge from Union Square crowds.
