Every first Thursday, the Lower Polk and Tenderloin neighborhoods open up their galleries, artist studios, and street art corridors for a free evening walk. It’s one of the more genuine art walk experiences in the city, these aren’t polished gallery districts, but real creative communities that have been quietly building something worth paying attention to. Starting at 6:00 pm, you can move at your own pace through both neighborhoods, checking in on whatever local artists are currently showing. The adjacency of Lower Polk and the Tenderloin makes it easy to drift between the two without a fixed agenda. No tickets, no registration, just show up and explore. Good option for a Wednesday evening if you want to engage with SF’s arts scene without a cover charge.
