체리헤드 conure(Aratinga erythrogenys)의 자연 개체군이 1990년대 초부터 Telegraph Hill에 살고 있다. 이 새들은 들으면 쉽게 알아볼 수 있다: 20에서 50마리 무리로 North Beach와 Telegraph Hill 상공을 날며 울음을 낸다. 가까이서 보려면 더 많은 인내심이 필요하다. 개체군은 언덕의 동쪽 경사면에 있는 Greenwich Steps와 Filbert Steps을 따라 나무에 로스트를 하며, 특히 오후 늦게 로스트 장소로 돌아올 때 볼 수 있다.

이 개체군은 2003년 다큐멘터리와 2004년 책의 주인공이 되었으며, 둘 다 “The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill”이라는 제목으로 수년간 새들에게 먹이를 주고 추적한 지역 주민 Mark Bittner를 따랐다.

오후 늦게가 개체군이 Coit Tower와 계단 정원 근처의 나무에 모일 때이다. 아침 목격은 있지만 신뢰성이 낮다. 앵무새는 번식 시즌인 3월부터 7월까지 가장 자주 나타난다.

운영 시간: 새벽부터 황혼까지. 더 확실한 목격을 위해 오후 늦게.

알아야 할 사항: 쌍안경이 있으면 가져가세요. 새들은 빠르게 움직이고 높이 로스트한다. 먹이를 주지 마세요.

가는 방법

대중교통: Muni 39-Coit 버스가 Coit Tower로 직행한다. 30-Stockton과 45-Union은 Telegraph Hill 기저부에 정차한다.

주차: Coit Tower 근처 주차는 매우 제한적이다. Lombard 또는 Embarcadero 거리 주차 후 올라가세요.

도보: Sansome Street의 Filbert Steps가 가장 경치가 좋은 경로이다. 가파르고 개인 정원을 지난다.
