Shinka Replaces Prelude at The Jay Hotel With a Japanese-French Tasting Menu
Shinka, a Japanese and French tasting-menu restaurant from Omakase Restaurant Group, has taken over the former Prelude space on the ground floor of The Jay hotel at 333 Battery Street in the Financial District. The restaurant is taking reservations on OpenTable, and The Infatuation published a review of it on October 12.
Prelude, the group’s Southern-inspired restaurant in the same room, served its last dinner on September 19. At the time, the group said it would reopen the space this fall with a new concept. Our report on the Prelude closing has the background.
The Chef and the Menu
Executive chef Fumio Yonezawa trained at Jean-Georges in New York, and Shinka is his first restaurant outside Asia, according to the restaurant’s OpenTable listing. When SFist first reported the change on September 11, the group described the cooking as “bringing together Japanese sensibilities and French technique through the ingredients of Northern California.”
SFist reported on October 16 that dinner is a $185 prix fixe, with a $70 caviar supplement. The OpenTable listing shows the Shinka Tasting Omakase Menu at $196.10 per person for parties of one to six, with optional wine and sake pairings. There is also a bar and lounge.
