The Malloch Building

Take the Filbert Steps down the east side of Telegraph Hill. Where the steps meet Montgomery Street is the Malloch Building, a Streamline Moderne apartment block from 1937.

In Dark Passage (1947), Lauren Bacall’s character brings Humphrey Bogart’s escaped convict here to hide in apartment 10 on the third floor while he recovers from plastic surgery. The building turns up again in Nine Months (1995). It is a private residence, so look from the steps.
