RM’s Art Collection Comes to SFMOMA October 3, With a $10 Surcharge and a $75 Repeat Pass

SFMOMA opens RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me on Saturday, October 3, the first museum exhibition built around the personal art collection of RM, the leader of BTS. Tickets went on sale to the general public on August 11. The show is on Floor 7 and runs through February 7, 2027.

What It Costs

This one is not covered by a standard museum ticket. SFMOMA is charging a surcharge on top of general admission: $10 on weekdays and $12 on weekends and holidays. Members pay nothing extra. Entry is by timed ticket booked online in advance.

SFMOMA also created a pass for this exhibition. The Encore Pass costs $75 and covers unlimited visits to Between You and Me for the whole run, with same-day general museum admission included each time you come. It also includes a gift picked up on site and 10 percent off at the exhibition’s pop-up store. If you plan to go more than twice, the arithmetic favors the pass.

Members get their own preview window, October 1 through 3, before the public opening.

What Is in It

The exhibition brings together 200 works, drawn from RM’s collection and from SFMOMA’s own holdings, and hangs them in conversation rather than in separate rooms. SFMOMA says many of the pieces from RM’s collection have not been shown publicly in the United States before.

The Korean artists represented in his collection include Yun Hyong-keun, Park Rehyun, Kwon Okyon, Kim Yun Shin, To Sangbong and Chang Ucchin. Those hang alongside SFMOMA works by the Korean painter Kim Whanki and by Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe and Paul Klee. Other pieces from the collection named by the museum include a 1949 Giorgio Morandi still life, a Han Youngsoo photograph of Deoksugung Palace in Seoul, and a Wonwoo Lee sculpture.

RM curated the show himself, under his given name Kim Namjoon, with SFMOMA’s América Castillo and Hyoeun Kim as co-curators. The museum lists BIGHIT MUSIC, HYBE and HYBE INSIGHT as partners.

In a statement released by the museum, RM described the exhibition as sitting on a set of boundaries, “between East and West, Korea and America, the modern and the contemporary, the personal and the universal,” and said he hoped it would work as “a small but sturdy bridge.”

SFMOMA is at 151 Third Street in SoMa, between Mission and Howard. The museum is open Monday and Tuesday 10am to 5pm, Thursday noon to 8pm, and Friday through Sunday 10am to 5pm. It is closed Wednesdays, which catches people out.

Montgomery Street and Powell Street stations, both on Market Street and both served by BART and Muni Metro, are each roughly a 10-minute walk. The museum notes that time slots and availability can change, and that admission is limited by exhibition capacity.
