The Walt Disney Family Museum in the Presidio opens Awaking Beauty: The Art of Eyvind Earle on October 23, 2026. The exhibition runs through April 18, 2027 and brings back, in a reworked form, one of the museum’s own original shows. Earle was the color stylist for Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty (1959), the artist responsible for the film’s overall visual look.
What to Expect
About 200 works fill the museum’s Exhibition Gallery on the lower level, including two gallery spaces opening for this show. The selection covers Earle’s years at the Walt Disney Studios, where his concept and background art also shaped Lady and the Tramp (1955), The Truth About Mother Goose (1957) and Paul Bunyan (1958), along with his later work as a fine artist and printmaker. The museum says the show includes pieces not in its earlier Earle exhibition and recently acquired paintings on view for the first time.
Earle drew on medieval tapestries, illuminated manuscripts, early Northern European painting and the American landscape. The Walt Disney Company named him a Disney Legend in 2015. The exhibition is co-curated by Ioan Szasz of Eyvind Earle Publishing and the museum’s Marina Villar Delgado.

When: October 23, 2026 to April 18, 2027. The museum is open Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 5:30pm, last entry 4:30pm.

Cost: Exhibition only: $15 adults, $12 seniors and students, $5 youth, free for children 5 and under. Added to museum admission: $10 adults, $8 seniors and students, $4 youth.
