SOMArts’ annual Día de Los Muertos exhibition opens on October 24, 2026 and runs through November 20 at 934 Brannan Street. This year’s edition, In Their Name: Día de Los Muertos 2026, is the 27th. Entry during gallery hours is free and open to all ages.
What to Expect
The exhibition was founded by the San Francisco artist and curator René Yañez and is now co-curated by Rio Yañez and Bridgétt Rex. SOMArts describes it as a Day of the Dead show that keeps the tradition’s Mexican roots while inviting other cultures to honor their dead alongside it. This year’s theme is mothering, in the broad sense: mothers by birth and chosen family, house and drag mothers, and community figures who have cared for others. The show is dedicated to the artist Tosha Stimage.
In keeping with the tradition, the exhibition includes personal altars dedicated to people who have died. Participating artists include Adrian Arias and Lindsey Crawford, Ancestral Dreams Collective, Crystal de Alba, David Tafolla, Monique Lopez, Pin@y Educational Partnerships, Rhiannon Evans MacFadyen and Vianne De Santiago, among others.

When: October 24 to November 20, 2026. Gallery hours are Thursday 3 to 7pm, Friday noon to 7pm, and Saturday and Sunday noon to 5pm; closed Monday to Wednesday. The opening reception is Friday, October 23, 6 to 9pm.
Where: SOMArts Cultural Center, 934 Brannan Street, SoMa.
Cost: Free during gallery hours. The opening reception is $15, free for youth 16 and under, and no one is turned away for lack of funds.
Getting there: SOMArts is on Brannan Street between Eighth and Ninth Streets. Several Muni bus lines run nearby; check the SFMTA trip planner for the route from your starting point.
