SF Bay Ferry Changes Weekday Schedules November 2; South San Francisco Ferry Paused for November

San Francisco Bay Ferry switches to new weekday schedules on several routes on Monday, November 2, 2026, and its South San Francisco route is suspended for all of November while the terminal is dredged. The agency announced the changes on October 8; here is what is different for riders leaving from the Ferry Building and the other San Francisco terminals.

What changes on November 2

  • Alameda Seaplane: new peak-period trips are added.
  • Harbor Bay: additional midday and evening service.
  • Oakland and Alameda: on weekdays, departures from Oakland to Downtown San Francisco no longer stop at Main Street Alameda. SF Bay Ferry points riders going between Alameda and Downtown San Francisco to the expanded Alameda Seaplane and Harbor Bay schedules, and riders going between Oakland and Alameda to the Alameda Short Hop or the Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle.
  • Vallejo: the 11:30am northbound departure is eliminated to improve fuel efficiency. The 11:05am and 12:10pm departures remain. Southbound Vallejo trips do not change.
  • Weekends: weekend timetables stay the same, apart from minor time adjustments to some Vallejo trips.

South San Francisco ferry suspended November 1 to 30

No schedule changes are planned for the South San Francisco route, but service is suspended from November 1 through November 30, 2026, for dredging at the terminal. The last day of service before the break was Friday, October 30. SF Bay Ferry expects the terminal and route to reopen on December 1, 2026, on current schedules.

Because of the suspension, weekday Alameda Short Hop service is also suspended through November. On weekends, Short Hop trips run eastbound only, from Main Street Alameda to Oakland.

What it means for visitors

Weekend timetables are largely unchanged, so a weekend trip across the bay from the Ferry Building runs on the same schedule as before, except on some Vallejo sailings. On weekdays, riders heading to Vallejo in the late morning have one fewer northbound boat, and anyone planning to ride from Oakland to Main Street Alameda on a weekday in November should check the Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle schedule, since weekday Short Hop service is suspended for the month.

These changes apply to San Francisco Bay Ferry only. Golden Gate Ferry’s boats to Sausalito and Larkspur are run by a separate agency, and boats to Alcatraz are run by Alcatraz City Cruises from Pier 33. Alcatraz itself is closed for dock repairs until mid-November; see our post on the Alcatraz closure.

SF Bay Ferry asks riders to check the updated timetables at sfbayferry.com/schedule-change before traveling and to allow extra time while the new weekday patterns settle in.

Drivers planning a trip south the following weekend should also note the southbound US-101 closure from November 6 to 9. More of what is happening this month is in our November 2026 guide.
