Alchemy Springs
The Verdict
"Saturday mornings are the most relaxed sessions. Evening visits have more energy and a social crowd. The intro 3-pack is the move if you think you'll come back, and you probably will."
What you need to know
This isn’t a quiet, solo spa experience. The whole concept is social: you come with friends or meet people there. The contrast therapy cycle (hot sauna, cold plunge, rest by the fire) is the core of every visit, and most sessions run about two hours.
What to expect
A drop-in session costs $57 for two hours. If you plan to come back, the intro 3-pack ($99) brings the per-visit cost down significantly. The sauna has immersive sound and lighting that changes through the session, so it’s not just sitting in a hot box. They also run special programming: yoga, sound baths, meditation, and themed evening sessions.
The New York Times featured it as a “Restorative Water Getaway,” and Forbes has covered the concept too. The full flagship build-out is expanding the space into a larger cultural gathering place, but the current Sauna Garden already delivers on the core experience.
Practical details
Book your session through their website before showing up. Walk-ins aren’t guaranteed. Robes are provided. Bring a swimsuit (it’s communal). The space is outdoors, so dress for the weather getting there and back, but once you’re in the hot sauna, the San Francisco chill is the point of the cold plunge.
Getting there
The location on Post Street in Lower Nob Hill is walkable from the 38 Geary bus line on Geary Boulevard, a few blocks south. Powell Street BART is about a 15-minute walk. Street parking on Post is metered but usually findable on weekday evenings.
