Sergeant Ma Opens September 9 in China Basin, From the Team Behind Trestle and Mama

Sergeant Ma opens September 9, 2026 at 185 Berry Street in China Basin, a waterfront restaurant from Hi Neighbor Hospitality Group, the team behind Trestle, Mama, 7 Adams, and Vault Steakhouse.

What to Expect

Executive chef and partner Jason Halverson named the restaurant for his mother, drawing on his Chinese and Vietnamese heritage and his Kansas upbringing. The seafood-centric menu runs 18 shareable dishes, including halibut and uni crudo, king salmon tartare with wood ear mushrooms and chile crisp, and lobster mafaldine with fermented Chinese black bean gravy. The space is a former Southern Pacific Railroad warehouse with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that open onto Mission Creek, plus outdoor fire pits and seating.
