About Financial District
Financial District建於海灣被填平的邊緣地帶。在淘金熱年代，這裡曾是Yerba Buena Cove，Montgomery Street沿著原本的海岸線而建。1849年至1850年間抵達的船隻被船員棄置，因為他們都前往金礦區淘金，市府便用沙土與碎石將海灣填平，把這些船隻埋在下面。數十艘這類船隻的殘骸至今仍在街道底下。
隨著海岸線向東擴展到新填出的土地上，這個地區逐漸成為西岸的銀行業中心。A.P. Giannini於1904年創立了Bank of Italy。1906年大地震與大火之後，他在碼頭上搭起臨時辦公桌，提供貸款協助民眾重建家園，這家銀行後來發展成Bank of America。Bank of Italy的建築至今仍矗立在552 Montgomery Street。
這個地區在1906年之後重建，並持續向上發展。位於600 Montgomery Street的Transamerica Pyramid於1972年完工，曾是全市最高的建築，直到2018年被Salesforce Tower超越。在其基座處有一座半英畝大的紅木林，Transamerica Redwood Park，目前對外開放。
