Hayes Valley
About Hayes Valley
Hayes Valley 的名字來自 Thomas Hayes，一位市府官員，他在 1850 年代開始開發這一區域。他規劃了一座名為 Hayes Park 的郊區度假地，並從市中心拉了一條鐵路線通往那裡，這使周邊街區得以開發住宅。
在 20 世紀的大部分時間裡，這個社區的樣貌都由 Central Freeway 所定義，這是一座建於 1959 年的高架結構，穿過此區域，並壓低了周邊的地產價值。1989 年的 Loma Prieta 地震對其造成了損壞。經過居民的長期抗爭，這條高速公路分階段拆除：北段在 1990 年代初拆除，而如今 Octavia Boulevard 上方的路段則在 2003 年前拆除完畢。
高速公路拆除後留下的土地變成了 Octavia Boulevard 和 Patricia’s Green，這座位於 Hayes 和 Octavia 交界的小公園於 2005 年開放。此後幾年間，Hayes Street 沿線一排排維多利亞式店面逐漸填滿了商店和餐廳。
