About Hayes Valley
Hayes Valley 之名源自Thomas Hayes,这位市政官员在19世纪50年代开始开发该地区。他规划了一个名为Hayes Park的郊区度假地,并从市中心修建了一条铁路线通往那里,从而带动了周边街区的住宅开发。
在20世纪的大部分时间里,这个社区都被Central Freeway所定义——这是一座建于1959年的高架结构,穿过该区域并压低了地产价值。1989年的Loma Prieta地震对其造成了损坏。经过居民们长期的努力,这条高速公路分阶段拆除:北段于1990年代初拆除,而如今Octavia Boulevard所在的那段则于2003年前拆除完毕。
高速公路拆除后留下的土地变成了Octavia Boulevard和Patricia’s Green——位于Hayes和Octavia交界处的小公园,于2005年开放。此后的几年里,Hayes Street沿线维多利亚式店面的街区逐渐填满了商店和餐馆。
